Read full description of the books:

Sourced from the autobiographical work "Satchmo - My Life in New Orleans" (Prentice Hall ©1954), this is the graphic novel telling of the life of legendary American Jazz trumpeter and singer Louis Armstrong (August 4, 1901 – July 6, 1971).

Rich illustrations contributed by artist Philip Paquet bring this tale to life, as Louis shows us what his journey was, beginning from the night that he was born. Fleshing out the vibrance and troubles of New Orleans in the early 20th century, readers are guided through a young black boy's depiction of his dream to follow in great footsteps, daring to believe. Despite how he is caught in an urban environment of impoverishment, injustice and racial stigma, through turning to the joy of music he triumphantly finds his survival, and too, along the way, his personal salvation as an artist.

When in adulthood Louis finally reaches the inception of the big time, it is many years after first encountering his musical hero, Joe Oliver... It is also here where at last Louis comes into his own, becoming the great one, known as "Satchmo".
